The Count
The Brazos Bend Christmas Bird Count covers a 15-mile diameter Count Circle area encompassing Brazos Bend State Park and its immediate vicinity. Teams of participants scout their assigned areas, noting any bird species they find. Entrance into the park is FREE for all participants during the event.

Schedule of Events: 
6:30-7:00 AM -   Meet at your assigned location within or outside the Park.
12:00 PM -  Break for lunch with your group
5-5:30 PM -    Head over to the Brazos Bend State Park Dining Hall for the Count Dinner!

Directions:
Your group leader will contact you in the weeks before the Count to let you know where and when to meet. Some groups will meet in the Park, while others will meet near adjacent properties.

From the West - Take 59 south, exit on Highway 99 South/Crabb River Road. Go south on 99/Crabbe River until you reach the train tracks. Stay straight over the tracks to continue to FM 762. Stay on 762 for several miles. Turn left at the blinking light to remain on FM 762. Look for the Park on your left after several miles.

From the North/East - Take 288 south to FM 1462. Turn right on 1462, and follow until the intersection with FM762. Take a right on 762 and look for the Park on your right after about a mile.

Count Dinner
As always, we will have our award-winning free Count Dinner after the Count. Drop on by around 5 PM to hear the day's results and grab some great food. Directions to the Brazos Bend State Park Dining Hall where the dinner is held can be found by clicking this sentence. 

What Should I Bring?:
  • Warm clothing
  • Sturdy shoes
  • Binoculars (camera or other optics optional)
  • Bag lunch
  • Rain gear if weather look sketchy
  • Enthusiasm
